Due to the extension of closure at the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport in Kedah until Wednesday, 10 November 2010, Malaysia Airlines will also be cancelling its flights in and out of Alor Setar on Tuesday, November 9 and Wednesday, November 10, 2010.

Due to the severity of volcanic ash surrounding Bandung and Yogyakarta, Malaysia Airlines flights to and from these two cities will be cancelled until the situation improves. Currently, flights connecting Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta are expected to be cancelled today (6 November 2010) and tomorrow (7 November 2010) morning. Malaysia Airlines will continue observing the Indonesian air space to ascertain the safety of flight operations into the area after 7 November 2010. The following flights are affected:
Malaysia Airlines Director of Operations, Captain Azharuddin Osman said, "The volcanic ash presence in the airways surrounding Jakarta could cause severe damage to our aircraft and engines which could impair the safety of our operations including passengers and crew. As always, safety is our top priority. "We will only be able to confirm the flight schedules once the situation has improved and clearance from the relevant civil aviation authorities has been received. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation closely," he added. Passengers on the affected flights have 3 options:

Change of travel dates to Bangkok (MAS)
Change of travel dates to Bangkok While Malaysia Airlines' flights from KLIA to and from Bangkok are operating on schedule despite the current situation in the Thai capital, Malaysia Airlines is pleased to announce that customers are given the option to change their traveling dates to Bangkok.
Customers may change their travel dates to any other dates convenient to them, up to 31 May 2010.
Customers holding special fare tickets with terms and conditions which normally do not allow for any change of dates, can now do so without any extra cost. However, due to the strict terms and conditions of the tickets, a fee will be charged for any subsequent changes. Refunds for these low fare tickets will not be applicable.
Customers holding normal tickets which allow for change of travel dates may do so without extra cost. They may also opt for refunds, subject to a refund administrative fee.

Europe-bound flights on Monday are cancelled: MAS

Malaysia Airlines' (MAS) flights to Europe on Monday have been cancelled due to the Icelandic volcano ash cloud over the continent.
In a statement here Sunday, the national carrier said the flights affected were as follows:
From Kuala Lumpur to:
* London (MH4) scheduled to depart at 10.05am
* London (MH2) scheduled to depart at 11.40pm
* Amsterdam (MH16) scheduled to depart at 11.55pm
* Paris (MH20) scheduled to depart at 11.35pm
* Frankfurt (MH6) scheduled to depart at 11.50pm
To Kuala Lumpur from:
* London (MH3) scheduled to depart at 12.00 noon
* London (MH1) scheduled to depart at 10.00pm
* Amsterdam (MH17) scheduled to depart at 12.00 noon
* Paris (MH21) scheduled to depart at 12.00 noon
* Frankfurt (MH5) scheduled to depart at 12.30pm However, according to the statement, MAS flight to Rome on Sunday night will proceed as scheduled at 11.45pm.
"As airports in Rome are currently still open, Malaysia Airlines is providing stranded customers with the option to change their original destination to fly into Rome instead, subject to seat availability.
"However, passengers will be responsible for onward travel to their final destination," the statement said.
Customers are urged to check the status of their flights before going to the airport on www.malaysiaairlines.com under the tab 'Book/Flight status' or contact MAS' call center 1300-88-3000 (within Malaysia) and 603-7843 3000 (outside Malaysia).
Those with mobile phones are encouraged to register their numbers with the airline for ease of notification via SMS. The statement said passengers on the affected flights will be given three options get a full refund, exchange tickets for future flights or re-book on the next available flight which can be done at MAS' ticketing or reservations offices. "Transit passengers can claim for unutilised portions of travel from MAS ticket offices upon returning to their original destination," it said.
Passengers can make travel date changes by April 22, 2010 and the travel period can be deferred until May 31, 2010. Claim for refunds are to be made by April 22, 2010.
MAS also said the situation was being closely monitored and the airline was keeping in touch with the authorities in the affected areas.

AirAsia X London Stansted flight distruptions
Following a further review of the latest Met Office information, UK National Air Traffic Services (NATS) has announced that restrictions will continue to remain in place in UK airspace until 0100 (UK time), Monday 19th April, at the earliest. This airspace closure is due to the volcanic ash cloud over parts of UK and Europe which means it is not possible to operate the aircraft due to safety considerations on the direction from the UK National Air Traffic Service (NATS).
Following this decision the following flights will not be operating:
• D72008 Kuala Lumpur to London Stansted on 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th April
• D72009 London Stansted to Kuala Lumpur on 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th April
Guests who have registered their mobile telephone numbers and email addresses with us will be notified by SMS text and email message. Please update your contact information via the www.airasia.com website (through “Manage My Booking” portal), and for those unable to access the portal, please email aax_eu@airasia.com.
If you are booked to travel on an affected flight, AirAsia X will waive change fees for confirmed bookings to and from Kuala Lumpur and London Stansted for travel up to and including 30th April 2010. Please email aax_eu@airasia.com should you wish to change your flight.

MALAYSIA AIRLINES FLIGHTS TO EUROPE FROM 15-17 APRIL CANCELLED
Due to airport closures across the UK and Europe as a result of volcanic ash from Iceland Malaysia Airlines flights from 15-17 April 2010 have been cancelled.
Based on current weather conditions and reports, there is a possibility that tomorrow’s flights will also be affected. As such, before proceeding to the airport, customers are urged to call the MAS Call Center 1300-88-3000 (within Malaysia) or 603-7843 3000 (outside Malaysia).
Passengers on the affected flights will be given 3 options:
· Get a full refund
· Exchange tickets for future flights
· Re-book on the next available flight
The above can be done at Malaysia Airlines' ticketing/reservations offices.
Transit passenger can claim for unutilized portions of travel from Malaysia Airlines ticket offices upon returning back to their original destination.
